Chiemsee: First dry, then the risk of rain increases significantly at night

At Chiemsee, it will remain mostly dry during the day on Wednesday – despite denser clouds and occasionally freshening winds. Only in the evening does the risk of rain noticeably increase, and light rain becomes much more likely during the night.

A changeable course is expected for May 13: Between cloudy and brighter phases, temperatures will reach up to 15 degrees around midday. Later, increasing cloud cover will cause temperatures to cool down and the probability of precipitation, especially at night, to rise sharply.

Mostly dry in the morning and midday, but occasionally windy

The day starts off mostly cloudy. In the morning, temperatures are between 5 and 12 degrees, and precipitation is not expected during this time window (0 percent). There will be a westerly wind around 10 km/h; gusts up to 41 km/h are possible. Especially at the lake, this can feel rougher in places due to open water surfaces and unobstructed airflow, even if it remains dry overall.

Around midday, there are the best chances for clear spells. Then it will be partly sunny, partly cloudy, with temperatures up to about 15 degrees. The forecast remains dry here as well (still 0 percent). The wind picks up: up to 18 km/h from the west is expected, gusts up to 43 km/h. Overall, up to five hours of sunshine are possible – although with the caveat that individual cloud fields may temporarily obscure the sun.

Clouds return in the evening

In the evening, the cloud cover closes up again for the most part. Temperatures drop to 10 to 13 degrees. The wind decreases compared to midday and shifts to a southerly direction, at about 5 km/h.

It is still mostly dry, but the risk of precipitation rises to 30 percent. This is a first signal for the weather change: rain is not certain, but increasingly possible – especially if the cloud cover continues to thicken.

High probability of rain at Chiemsee during the night

At night, it remains heavily cloudy to overcast. Temperatures drop to 8 to 10 degrees, and the wind blows weakly from the south at around 6 km/h.

What stands out is especially the jump in the probability of rain: it rises to 90 percent. Occasional light rain is expected; the amount forecast for the night is 0.5 l/m². Important for classification: The forecast is a point-in-time forecast for a specific location at Chiemsee – the percentage values refer to each individual hour. A high value therefore mainly means that precipitation is very likely in that hour, not automatically that it will rain heavily or continuously.

All in all, Wednesday at Chiemsee remains quite usable during the day, with the best clear spells around midday. However, anyone out in the evening or at night – for example, on the way back from lakeside paths or landing stages – should expect dense cloud cover and increasingly likely, mostly light rain.
