WEG: When Home is Lost and a New Beginning Starts
On November 7, 2026, the theater project WEG will bring the experiences of flight, displacement, and arriving on stage at the König Ludwig Saal in Prien am Chiemsee. The focus is on true life stories from the years 1945 to 1955 – a time when 14 million Germans lost or had to leave their homes.
Memory Becomes Living Stage Art
The production by Werner Hofmann and playwright Julia Hofmann connects personal fates with a poignant view of the post-war period. Women, children, and men tell of loss, uncertainty, and the difficult path to a new life. At the same time, attention is directed to those who took in refugees and displaced persons.
Drama Between Loss and Hope
The dramaturgy follows not only historical data but also the emotional traces of biographical experiences. The play questions the inner strength of humans, the sense of belonging, and how a home can emerge in a new place. Serious moments blend with humor and courage for life – a interplay that gives the post-war period its contradictory human depth.
Music, Dance, and a Large Ensemble
The WEG ensemble from the Music School Prien interprets the specially composed music by Tilo M. Heinrich and Anian Moch under the direction of Tilo Heinrich. Around 80 participants bring the post-war years to life in a combination of acting, music, and movement. Captivating dance scenes in the style of the 1940s, Boogie-Woogie, and historical costumes provide special accents in the theater atmosphere.
A Stage Experience with Regional Perspective
Many actors come from the region and bring their own connections to the history of their families and communities. This gives the acting a direct, personal touch. In the stage design of the König Ludwig Saal, memory, everyday life, and new beginnings meet – a theater journey that transforms historical distance into closeness.
Conclusion: WEG promises a reflective and yet powerful stage experience about loss of home, reception, and the courage for new beginnings. Those who want to not only observe history but experience it emotionally will witness in Prien a production with music, dance, and strong human moments.
