Religion and Politics in Open Dialogue
Where faith and state order meet, profound questions arise regarding responsibility, peace, and social cohesion. The lecture by Prof. Dr. Mathias Rohe invites a knowledgeable and respectful engagement with the relationship between religion and politics on October 15, 2026, at the Diakoniehaus Brannenburg.
Between Conflict History and Peace Potential
Political struggles in the name of religion have a long and unholy tradition in Europe as well as in the Islamic world. At the same time, religions exhibit a peace-promoting potential that can connect people, provide guidance, and contribute to interreligious dialogue. The evening will explore how this potential can be politically utilized without fostering new conflicts and collateral damage.
Secular Rule of Law and Religious Positions
Focusing on the developments of secular states in Europe, as well as Islamic-based positions regarding state, law, and society. The lecture combines religious studies perspectives with legal expertise and creates space for nuanced questions about faith practice, political responsibility, and social coexistence.
