Mendelssohn's Lobgesang fills Prien with great symphonic sound brilliance
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, the Church Music of Mariä Himmelfahrt invites you to a special choir and orchestra concert at the Catholic parish church of Mariä Himmelfahrt. Starting at 6 PM, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's symphonic cantata op. 52 will resound, a work that embodies spiritual depth, romantic sonority, and festive musical energy.
An evening of light, voice, and orchestral sound
Mendelssohn's Lobgesang combines symphonic orchestration with powerful choral movements and expressive solo passages. In the unique acoustics of the church space, orchestral colors, human voice, and spiritual expression come together for an intense concert experience. Fanfare-like motives, lyrical lines, and multifaceted choral textures guide through a work that musically depicts the transition from darkness to light.
Choral Community of Mariä Himmelfahrt and Capella München
Under the direction of choral director Bartholomäus Prankl, the regionally renowned choral community of Mariä Himmelfahrt performs together with the orchestra Capella München. The choral community has cultivated an extensive repertoire of orchestral works from the Classical and Romantic periods for years. This includes not only Mendelssohn's Lobgesang but also large sacred works by Brahms, Mozart, Bach, and Haydn.
Solo voices with tonal precision
Singers Jenavieve Moore-Steiner and Cornelia Heil in soprano, as well as Florian Neubauer in tenor, will participate as soloists. Their voices stand out from the orchestral sound, set emotional accents, and give the solo passages of the work their individual color. Together with the choir and orchestra, a musical synchronization emerges that ranges from intimate moments to powerful tutti.
Church space as a resonant concert venue
The Catholic parish church of Mariä Himmelfahrt at Marktplatz 12 provides a fitting atmosphere for this symphonic choir and orchestra concert. The sacred space enhances the echo effect of the voices and makes Mendelssohn's romantic sound language palpable in all its breadth. The audience can expect a live atmosphere where musical dynamics, spatial sound, and spiritual expression are closely intertwined.
Conclusion: Experience Mendelssohn's sound world live
The Prien concert evening offers great choral music, an experienced ensemble, and the impressive sound language of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Those who appreciate symphonic music, sacred works, and intense stage performance in the church space will experience a special evening by Lake Chiemsee.
